Mobile Museum of American Artifacts

Exhibition

The Mobile Museum of American Artifacts (MMoAA) is a touring museum of personal objects and their histories. Housed in a small vintage trailer, MMoAA travels from town to town, conducting an “archeology of the present” that uncovers objects of significant (and insignificant) connection to everyday American life. MMoAA will be making its debut visit to Providence May 11-16th. Mark your calendars and find your objects!

Hosted by the John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities, the MMoAA will be at the Bell Gallery on Monday, May 11 from 11-4, and at other locations in Providence throughout the week.

The John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities at Brown University will host the Mobile Museum of American Artifacts (MMoAA), directed and curated by Laurelin Kruse, for a week-long residency in Providence, May 11–May 16.

The MMoAA is housed in a trailer driven by Kruse that travels around the country collecting and sharing people's artifacts and stories. In so doing, it collects an "archeology of the present" that uncovers objects of significant (and insignificant) connection to everyday American life.

With the assistance of four Brown graduate students, Kruse has established partnerships with different organizations in the Providence community in hopes of engaging the MMoAA with Providence and its diverse communities. MMoAA will be parked near 5 different organizations or events throughout the week of May 11-16: David Winton Bell Gallery, Olneyville Community Library, Knight Memorial Community Library, AS220 Foo(d) and WaterFire.

We invite you to visit the Museum but also to participate by donating an object that will become part of MMoAA’s collection. We are seeking objects and stories that tell us about your personal experience and/or relationship with Providence or your neighborhood.

The MMoAA is free and we hope to see you all visiting and participating!
